  1. Poverty is such a sad thing that is unfortunately over looked by the wealthy and ignored in our every day lives. In the second video, the way he was explaining such a wonderful day for him, and it was full of ordinary things that people like us take advantage of was so sad it makes people understand and begin to think about and appreciate the things that make our every day life so simple. Even at the end of the video when the girl says "a day can't be that wonderful," is so sad and really makes the whole video have that much more of an impact. I think the videos will make people understand that poverty is a big thing and shouldn't be over looked anymore.

  2. Poverty isn't something that needs to happen. Most people don't even understand that poverty is such a bad thing that can happen in anybody's lives. When I saw the little boy describing his day, I realized that so many people have witnessed poverty and haven't done anything about it. It's sad that a child dies every 3 seconds. They have so much to live for, but so little time. When the little girl said that the boy couldn't have such a good day, I felt sad. The wealthier people can have days like that, but they haven't realized or just ignored that they could do a big thing and help. Poverty should be stopped because it has a huge impact on society, but it isn't a big thing to others just because it's not happening to them.

  3. "The state of being extremely poor; The state of being inferior in quality or insufficient in amount." That's the definition of poverty. Isn't is sad, that Poverty is so common in the world, that it even has a definition? Some people overlook Poverty as problem that is caused by the person itself, as in, it's that persons fault, so why should they care? But in reality, no one gets the choice whether or not to live in poverty or not. Poverty is as simple as 1,2,3. Poverty can be reduced, and poverty can begin within a short period of time. Poverty is truly a very sad, sad thing, that personally, I want to be extinct in this world. I don't think that's a lot to ask, that dream doesn't have to be just a dream. Nothing is impossible. "A penny can save a life".

  4. “It is a tragic mix-up when the United States spends $500,000 for every enemy soldier killed, and only $53 annually on the victims of poverty.” Martin Luther King, Jr. I agree with Martin Luther King Jr. if I had it my way it would be the other way around. People in poverty are getting less than most kids would pay for a pair of DC shoes. Even after we get the 100$ shoes we still want more. When that little boy in the video said that he had the best day ever over little, simple thinks like riding a bus or going to the Laundromat. When we say the best day ever is having a 250 dollar shopping spree or spending 1000 dollars at wonderland. I don't know if this is true, but I think people who experienced poverty have a better understanding of compassion; apperception and love. Our Parents can spend 100-250dollars on the wrong pair of shoes. If that little boy got a pair of bright pink shoes with fairies on them I don't think he would care as long as they fit. They have been in situations like wondering were there next meal will come from, when we just worry if our hair is done right or if we have the coolest outfit. In a way people in poverty are the richest people of all.

  5. I dont't think not enough people are trying to get rid of poverty. Mant people across the world are affected by poverty. They cannot afford and food and are starving to death and getting really ill. Its is really sad that we take are food for grantued. One grain of rice could just change people life. Over 1.7 billion poeple are affected by poverty. I think a posible solution is, more poeple should donate to a food drive. My thoughts on the problem is that people dont't really think that this is affecting more people than they think. I think thay should advertise more and tell poeple how bad poverty is affecting people lives.

  6. These videos make me feel sad. Every 3 seconds a child dies for no reason. It was wierd when that girl said that you couldn't have such a good day to the boy. The boy made his bad day into a good day so he could tell his story to his class. I don't think the boy really knew how poor he was. He used his imagination to make it a good day. The girl called him a liar because, maybe, she knew he was poor and was making a lot of his story up.

  7. how could so many kids be facing this... I wish there was more that people could give to them... It's so sad that others take granted for what they have while others don't... I feel so sorry for those who have so very littel to care about any more

  8. snap.... and an innocent child is dead from poverty. The World Bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than US $1.25 per day, and moderate poverty as less than $2 or $5 a day. How sickening, if all the people not in poverty could just give a little everyday we could possibly accomplish the mission to change the world in a positive way. Everytime those commertials come on where the little children in Africa are starving and sleeping in the dirt, I cry... every single time. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer at a staggering rate. Once upon a time, the United States had the largest and most prosperous middle class in the history of the world, but now that is changing at a blinding pace. Poverty goes unnoticed to most people, yet it is all around us. Maybe someday the rich will give and the poor will not be called poor ever again. That is the day the world will TRULY change.

  9. Poverty is such a sad thing and dosent need to happen. In the second video when the boy is explaining about his day it is sad because the little boy is trying to make it sound so wonderfull like going to the sea but actually going to the laundro mat. The sad thing is that a lot of people don't even know what it is or means. People take simple stuff for granite and dont bother to think about the victims of poverty. People get killed because of poperty every year. They starve because people don't bother to think about it or how they can help prevent it. Some ways we could help prevent poverty is to give food to the poor, give someone money to help them buy them clothes, and take care of them selves. One person can make a diffrence.

  10. Wow! This is all i can say! A child dies unnecessarily every 3 seconds. This is soo sad. 1,2,3 there's another one. The second video is so sad. The little boy is talking about his day. He went to his unlces house, then he went to watch the boats. When really he only went to the laundromat with a paper boat. A little girl in his class replies " Liar! A day cant be that wonderful!"
I find that the wealthy just walk right pass the poor, not even thinking about them. We take our houses and our food for granted. We eat and throw out what what we don't eat. Never thinking 'someone would love to have this' Somone would love to have food or watter.
    Help defeat poverty!

  11. Just a note to all:

If you know that there are many grammar mistakes in your work, take a couple minutes to fix them before you make a post. This will GREATLY improve your mark :)

  12. These videos made me feel sad, and really think about how poverty affects people. In the first video, when he said something along the lines of, "these deaths can be avoided", it made me think of how people can donate to charities, give clothing to thrift stores, and help out at organizations and local food banks, and only take a bit of time out of their lifestyle that really, they are fortunate to have. The fact that a child dies every three seconds, and that 300 million children go to bed hungry, is, (in my mind) past the point of sad. So is that some people live on less than $2.00 a day. Think about it - that’s less than a large coffee at Starbucks. Here, in Canada, we are very lucky, and less than 2% of the population lives on about $1.25 a day - but in other places, people aren’t as lucky. Can you imagine, if every single person in North America donated a dollar, we would be able to give a whole lot – and I mean a whole lot – of money to donate to poverty. People that are very wealthy probably don’t think much of extreme poverty, because they can’t relate. But if you try and look at the problem in perspective, it could really make you think about it differently. I found that the second video was really sad because the little boy found his day very exciting and fun, but to us it seems sad and unfortunate that a little boy doesn’t really realize he is not as wealthy as us. Overall, poverty is sad, and to think, a single thing you do can help a child in need, and maybe even save a life.

  13. I feel terrible now that I know how many kids die each day because of poverty. I don’t think many people are trying to help these children because of our idea of who should be first in thought that’s right I’m talking about number one your self. But if people started to think of other people before our self then I’m positive we can bring poverty to an end.

  14. Poverty is such a sad and horrible thing. A lot of people do not know what it is, or how it happens. Poverty sometimes is not a easy thing to spot. Like that boy in the second video, he was in school, had clothes, and even food. But whan the girl poited out that you cannot have that good of a day, I think it opened some peoples eyes. the little boy might not even know better. Or in the first video, how a child dies every three seconds. They can die of hunger, hygiene issues, or when there sick, there parents cannot afford medicine to help. There is many different types of poverty, and we should do something about it.

  15. Poverty. It's a sad sight, a sad thought, and a sad definition. Poverty is so underrated. It isn't recognized for what it truly is. In the second video it really shows you how no one knows, no one really sees it. The girl tells him "No. You can't have that good of a day!" and she's right. The boy exaggerated it by a lot. He didn't tell the truth because he knew what people would think, how they'd probably judge him. Or that's what I think. He's probably insecure about the whole idea. And most people who are struggling are, and don't speak out because as I as said before people are judgemental. And then there's the first video. Snap, another child dies. That's all it takes - just a few seconds for someone to die. Whether it's poverty or something else, and I think I would know the feeling - of a fast death I mean. Most deaths can be prevented, but I believe that all poverty related deaths definitely are a case that can be prevented.

  17. most people dont know or ever think of proverty. we as canadins dont know that proverty is all arounsd us. in the first video a snap of a finger just showed what proverty could do, kill. proverty shoued be stopped and it can be stopped. I know that must of felt bad for the kid in the second video to be called a liar. i think he was trying to image what a good day would like even thoy he coulnt have that chance. just like he there are many more peole children going throw proveryt it just hearts me to hear thgis.

  18. As many people have already said, Poverty is way overlooked. Its a sad sight to see someone completely ignore a poverty stricken man or woman and walk away. It is very rare to see someone help or donate to a homeless person. Also in the 1st video, just imagine every 3 seconds a child dies from EXTREME poverty! That is so sad. I think Poverty is a HORRIBLE thing, since so many people don't realize that it happens everyday, people live homeless. The wealthy live in homes, so the wealthy or even the average family should donate or help out the homeless. There are millions of Charities that help the homeless people should donate. It saves millions of lives around the ENTIRE world. So if you help the tiniest bit poverty can stop all around. That is my opinion of POVERTY

  19. Do you want to know something that is really sad in our world? Well it is poverty! Poverty is such a sad thing to think about. In the first video it says that a child dies every three seconds. Wow one two three a child is gone. If you look at when we see people on the streets we don’t even bother to give them some money or food. In the second video, a boy describes his day. I don’t think he new how poor he was. When he went to the laundry mat he thought he was on a boat. When the little girl called him a liar I think that she might of new he was poor so he could not have a good day like how he described to be. We are Canadians and we do not even recognize someone with extreme or who has poverty, even if they are standing right beside them. A reason why we do not always see poverty is, because they have clothes, and some food, just like the boy in the second video. In my opinion I think poverty should be stopped around the world and it can be. We are doing a food drive at school and are helping people with poverty right there. Our class goal is to bring in sixty cans imagine their faces then? What if we brought in more than sixty cans, imagine there faces then? I am going to try to put a stop to poverty and you can too. Just one can make a difference; the whole world can make a huge difference in our world. Let’s all stop poverty together!

  22. I think poverty is a horrible experience. It can be as easy as donating to the local food bank or donating to a poor citycountry. I find it so sad that all of Milton could be wiped out in less then two and a half days. That is why i think the problem should be solved now before it gets even worse then it is now.

  23. poverty is an issue that is constantly overlooked in our common society. I have to admit I've seen poverty in toronto and I didn't give it a second thought until now. Now I know that half of society starves on the streets, now I know that a child dies every three seconds because of it, and now I want us all to make a difference. It won't be easy but poverty is a problem that can go away, and we should work our hardest to make that happen. We should give our clothes that no longer fit us to charity, we should also give away blankets and pillows. Just remember poverty can be stopped

  24. poverty is a sad thing. Its sad because you dont have a roof over your head and doesn't dont have that much food.Away to help stop poverty is at school we should start a big food drive then ship all the food to the less fortunate. So they could at least have some food to feed there cildren. Not only that we should also give a children small christmass presents in a shoe box. In the shoe box you could put pencils note book and a small dall. Poverty should stop and everybody deserves a roof over there head and water and money.

  25. Poverty is sad cause alot of people have blind eye to it. Also it is overlooked by so much people. A good example of helping people with poverty is to donate to charitys like Salvation Army,United Way and the church. An example of something you can donate is outgrown cloths and pillows and and also blankets. I learned that every minute 20 children die which is very sad and thats why I think poverty is sad.

Most people over look it but I have made a commitment to promise to always look out for people and give them my scarf or my gloves that they despritely need........ once i went to toronto and i saw a homeless man laying in a shoping cart freezing so i went up to him and gave him a blanket so he smiled at me. We should make a pack that we will try to reach our goal of 60 cans and make a change!!!

If we have cloths that we don't like anymore are it doesn't fit us. We should donate it to the salvation army not throw it away!

  30. like Johnathon said it can be very dangerous because it is harmful to the kids and there familys. Every day 25 000 kids die of being sick because of poverty. And poverty is very sadand it is very sad to see people ignore it and not do eney thing. I my self am helping people out because sometimes i go to the food bank and help sort things like can foods. our school is making a diffrince a little at a time by donating food and money. Hearing familys going throw this makes me feel so bad and we can make a diffrince.

  31. Poverty is such a sad thing I never really new they affect it could have on people. The videos I watch made me realize what poverty can do. Like Alicia said poverty is over looked and ignored in everyday life. In the first video a snap of a finger just killed one kid’s life and probably some much more. It must of felt bad for the kid in the first video to be called a liar. He was explaining such a good day. I think he was just trying to imagine what a good day would be like if he got a chance to live a life without poverty. I was really shocked to read from Sofia that 300 million children go hungry. I knew people were hungry out in the world but 300 million really got to me. Now I wish I can give them help but me alone I cannot do. We all need to step in and help the kids we are dealing with proverty.

  32. Great work class. I am proud of the progress you are making on your writing. Many of you have used the feedback I gave you from the last post and that is great to see how it has helped you. There is still much to work on; including topic sentences and concluding sentences, organizing our ideas, and elaborating on what we want to say. Oh, and I must not forget that we should ALL take some time to review our work for spelling, grammar and sentence fluency. An extra 5 or 10 minutes could be your ticket to a level 3 or 4!
